PS4 VR – Not as good as the Oculus Rift

PS4_VRThe idea of having virtual reality for a gaming machine is a really good one.  Where it’s not a good idea is to have it on a machine which the performances are always compared to the PC version.

The PS4 is a dedicated machine for gaming and sometime we are quite impressed of it with the graphics when there are comparaisons with the PC version, where a PC cost more than a PS4.  Playstation VR sports a 960 x 1080 per eye vs. 1080 x 1200 per eye for the Rift and Vive.    This change the experience.  You will be more disturbed by the pixels than the Rift or the Vive.  Refresh rates to be less than the Rift too and graphics will be limited as well.  Will this stop you from buying it?  Probably not and here’s why.

Sony has the PSN store implemented well and it will be used to help put its VR headset and VR games in its front page.  This will help popularize the product.  Plus, you can expect half of the price of the Oculus Rift.

Sony can’t sell a pair of glasses that cost more than its console itself and Sony knows that if the product fails, his stock will plunge too and they have everything to come back in the markets with an incredible line of cameras and lens, music and movie franchises like James Bond.  It’s important to have a perfect score for them as there is always a time where a console arrives in it’s mid-life where you start selling less.  At that time, accessories and games become the cash cow and Sony knows this.

Sony is in a position where they could release(we hope) the VR at the same time as Uncharted 4 and have some sort of compatibility with this major title.  It would be an open door for them as some sort of bundle.

We think that the Playstation VR has the WINGS to fly.
